Hermie, A Common Caterpillar

Hermie
A Common Caterpillar

Published by Thomas Nelson

Hermie  is caterpillar.
Just a common caterpillar.
A  sad common caterpillar.
Hermie and his friend Wormie see other of God’s creatures with what they see as more beauty, talent or gifts that they have been given. But when they talk to God about how “common” and unimportant they feel , God gently but faithfully reminds them that He is not finished with them yet!  Young readers will be encouraged as they are reminded that they too are a work in progress – and that God has a plan for their life as they seek Him.

Listed as a Level 2 Reader, young readers can enjoy the story while practicing their new reading skills.  Though keep in mind it is definitely an advanced level for very beginner readers.  While my kindergarten age daughter will listen to me read, she would not yet be able to read it by herself.

Night Night Blessings

Night Night Blessings
By Amy Parker
Published by Thomas Nelson

Night Night Blessings is a simple little book geared toward younger children.
Not too complicated for little ones to understand.
Not too long for their attention span.

Written in a first person, prayer format, the rhyming text describes various things to be thankful for.  From the beginning of the day, with pancakes stacked high, to the twinkling stars as the day ends, there are so many things for which to thank God.

The illustrations are very well done.  From wispy hair, to bold but subdued colors, the overall mood of the book provides a pleasant and calming effect for a sleepy little reader.

I would definitely recommend Night Night Blessings as a wonderful God-centered bedtime story.

Gabby, God’s Little Angel

Gabby, God’s Little Angel
By Sheila Walsh
Published by Thomas Nelson

Gabby, God’s Little Angel, by accomplished author and speaker Sheila Walsh, presents the story of Gabby, an angel in “guardian angel training”, and her “new assignment”, Sophie, a fun-loving girl who needs lots of guarding.  The book is based around the Biblical scripture Psalm 91:9 & 11: The Lord is your protection. . . . He has
put his angels in charge of you. They
will watch over you wherever you go.

The story opens with a depiction of Gabby’s sometimes clumsy enthusiasm through what she calls a “musical mishap”.  As she learns of her new charge on earth, Sophie, she also learns of Sophie’s fun-loving spirit that will require Gabby’s full attention.  The angel and her charge have much in common.

Personally, I (and my daughter) adore Sheila Walsh and especially her “Gigi: God’s Little Princess” books and DVD’s.  And in true Sheila Walsh fashion,  Gabby, God’s Little Angel does not disappoint.  Little girls who have become endeared to the Gigi series (my daughter included), will be thrilled with this newest addition to their collection by their beloved author.  I would be quick to recommend this book as a great gift-book, a mother-daughter resource, or simply a fun read.

Right From the Heart

Right From the Heart
Turning Your Day Toward God

By Bryant Wright

Nice daily devotional … full of great advice and encouragement.

Right From The Heart, is a daily devotional which includes 366 “chapters”, one for each day of the year – even including February 29 for leap year!  The reading structure is divided into months, then each day.  Each day begins with a relevant scripture, taken from various Bible translations.  Devotional topics are practical and presented as brief but thought provoking, with many including stories and quotes that illustrate the topic of the “chapter”.

Though I read an ebook version of this book, having a physical copy would be a blessing to anyone seeking a jump-start to their daily time with The Lord. I would definitely recommend to anyone seeking a great devotional companion or gift book.
